milford sound. birthdays. halloween. the end is near!

so i took this incredible trip to the milford sound with my friends alex, casey, kim and kevin. it was the most breathtaking place ive ever seen. heres some photos from the drive up and ill tell the story through the pictures. but really, pictures do it NO justice.

first stop on milford road

driving to milford

mirror lakes

another random stop

then things started to get big

yehh we finally got to milford sound. mitre peak in the background

so then this night we had a crazy adventure--drank some vodka, and searched for some glowworms and dinosaurs. i made a video. when its done ill post it up here--heh.

sunrise--cuz i couldnt sleep. me and alex watched it come up for over an hour.

so here we are on the fjord cruise through the milford sound. yes fjord, as in the norwegian word. the british misnamed all the fjords in the area "sounds" because they didnt know the word for fjord and a sound was the closest thing they knew to what it was. they then tried to fix the problem by naming the whole area "fiorland" which was also a mistake cuz they spelled it with an i instead of a j--yeah..haha what does that say about the brits, eh?

look how small the boat is

nature is amazing

what a rainbow

we drove right under the waterfall and some girl went under it with cups so we could all drink the water from it!

penguin

seals

can you see the figures?

part of our cruise was stopping at this underwater observatory. it goes 10 meters down into the water, and you get to see fish and aquatic life that normally lives 200 meters below sea level. this is a unique phenomena caused by the 8 meters of freshwater on top of salt water in the milford sound. the freshwater keeps the light out and therefore creates a habitat for deep sea animals.

we saw this awesome nz bus. photo op!

the beginning of our hike through the rainforest! scary bridge.

the drive home--most epic 24 hours.

well needless to say its the last days weeks in dunedin so its been time to party and celebrate with one another, and bid farewell. and not to mention it was halloween! first me casey and al went hiking in dunedin, then went to a surprise party, theme: highschool stereotypes.

AND: this is halloween, halloween, halloween

purposely making our classic drunk faces

the viking slaying the german.

classic. best ever.

a close second.

so needless to say, there might be a few more cool things i get to do in my last 8 days in new zealand--but i have learned so much in my time here. i have discovered who my true friends are, and how to see things from a completely different perspective. as i look back and reflect i realize that there is no greater lessons in life then the ones you learn from getting out of your comfort zone and seeing life through open and excited eyes. there is nothing like putting yourself in a situation that you dont know the outcome of. i just want to thank my family, a few close friends here (you know who you are), a few good friends in the states, and several friends half a world away in norway. i would have never made it through this without you and i cant thank you enough for loving me unconditionally and always being there for me. you make me laugh, smile and cheer me up when im having one of those moments. life wouldnt be the same without you.
